I often hear about my successes, particular those shiny gold medals. But I’m wired more to talk about my defeats, those utter and complete failures. Those times I literally landed on my face. I’m wired this way because I learned early in my career that without those difficult times, I likely never would have stood on that Olympic podium.
Yes, it’s easy to say, “Of course, I learned from my mistake.” But did you really? I ask myself this often. I make a lot of mistakes. We all do. It’s part of life and part of growing. Many times our mistakes seem enormous at the moment, but aren’t really that devastating in the grand scheme of things — as long as we learn something and move forward.
So that’s the question. How do we learn from mistakes or failures? How do we know we’ve found that teachable moment within our failure? And how do we use that lesson to make sure we don’t make that mistake again? Well, that’s what we’re talking about in this video. How do we take those mistakes we make and turn them into something positive that helps us and others move forward?
